How Should Football Boots Fit?

13 Aug 2026

Finding the right football boots isn't just about choosing your favourite colourway or the latest model.

Fit matters.

1. What Do You Need to Measure Your Child’s Feet?

You don't need specialist equipment.

Grab:

Two sheets of paper
A pencil or pen
A ruler or tape measure
The socks they'll normally wear with their trainers
A hard, flat floor

Try to measure while your child is standing up rather than sitting down, as their feet can spread slightly when bearing weight.

2. Measure Both Feet

These boots are specifically designed for synthetic grass pitches.
Artificial grass behaves differently from natural turf, so AG soleplates typically use a stud configuration designed specifically around the traction demands of that surface.
What do AG studs look like?

The exact design varies by manufacturer, but compared with many FG models, AG boots commonly use more numerous and/or shorter studs, often with rounded or hollowed shapes depending on the brand.
The aim is to provide appropriate grip while interacting more suitably with artificial grass.
AG boots are best for:
Artificial grass
Regular training on synthetic pitches
Players who predominantly play on AG surfaces

Choose AG if…
Most of your matches and training sessions take place on an artificial grass pitch.
